Porta Cicca: story of a Milanese name

Porta Cicca is the popular name for Porta Ticinese — one of Milan's historic gates, today the heart of the Navigli, Bocconi and nightlife.

The name's origins are debated: cigar stubs (cicca in Milanese), taverns and drunkenness, or the Milanese «you're worth nothing». Each theory tells of a popular, lively, authentic neighbourhood.
